Although born in Luanda, Angola, Melo D grew up in Lisbon, Portugal. Rapper, singer and lyricist, Melo D, began his career in the early nineties and has become a legendary figure in Afro-Portuguese music. He was one of the early pioneers of hip hop in Portugal with his group Family who appeared on Sony Music's groundbreaking hip hop compilation album "Rapublica" (1994). He later collaborated as lead vocalist with the acid jazz project Cool Hipnoise on their first two albums "Nascer do Soul" (1995 and "Missão Groove" (1997), both being nominated for multiple Premios Blitz (the Portuguese Grammy). His solo albums include; "Outro Universo" (2003), Chega De Saudade (2005), Soul(I) De Lisboa (2016) and Requiem (2021). Melo D along with artist Double V were the first in the country of Portugal to use Soundstystems.
