Valerian Gunia was born on January 21, 1862 in Eki, Kutaisi Governorate, Russian Empire [now Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Republic of Georgia]. He was an actor and writer, known for Khanuma (1926), Daisi (1971) and The Murder of General Gryaznov (1921). He died on July 31, 1938 in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, USSR [now Republic of Georgia].
