Composer ("South Rampart Street Parade", "What's New?", "Big Noise From Winnetka"), songwriter and bassist, educated in high school and a student of Stefan Wolpe, Ruppert Graves, Tibor Serly, and Tom Timothy. He was a bassist in the Bob Crosby orchestra between 1935 and 1942, and thereafter he was a freelance composer for radio, records and television. Later he joined the NBC staff with Skitch Henderson and wrote commercial themes, radio and television jingles and film music. Joining ASCAP in 1954, his chief musical collaborators included Ray Bauduc, Johnny Burke, Jack Lawrence and Bud Freeman, and his other popular-song and instrumental compositions include "So What Else Is New?" and "Gone But Not Forgotten".
