For many years Amy Halpern has been one of Los Angeles' leading experimental/independent filmmakers, creating films which are both abstract and also human in their elements and themes. Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles times called her feature FALLING LESSONS "a stunning, life-affirming experience from a major experimental film artist." Halpern has worked as a cinematographer and gaffer on many films, including Pat O'Neill's THE DECAY OF FICTION, Charles Burnett's MY BROTHER'S WEDDING, and David Lebrun's BREAKING THE MAYA CODE and THE DANCE OF THE MAIZE GOD. Committed to encouraging a wider awareness of absolute film, Halpern was co-founder of the New York Collective for Living Cinema and the Los Angeles Independent Film Oasis. She has taught at several universities, including the University of Southern California. Halpern is a member of the classic west coast light show Single Wing Turquoise Bird, performing on liquids and transparencies. Her most recent film work is a suite of short films, ASSORTED MORSELS, of which THREE-MINUTE HELLS is a part.
