Award winning Producer Paul Hellerman began his career as a stage manager for off-Broadway theatre. His first film endeavor was a short that he produced with the American Film Institute. The Vietnam War drama, called "The Silence," was nominated for an Academy Award in 1982. Paul Hellerman went on to work for TAT Film Productions in the 1980's, where he served for as a producer on numerous low-budget action pictures. After leaving the company, he launched his production management career in the 1990's with Gus Van Sant's "My Own Private Idaho" for New Line Cinema, and then Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction" among other independent projects for Miramax. His freelance physical production and creative producing career developed as he continued working with Miramax and Dimension Films, Co-Producing such films as "Teaching Mrs. Tingle", Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown", "From Dusk Till Dawn" and "Four Rooms", while also working with other leading independent filmmakers and companies on such films as "White Man's Burden" for Rysher Entertainment, serving as Vice President of Production and Acquisitions at Initial Entertainment Group, and as Line Producer and Production Representative on several films for Trimark Pictures (most notably Sam Shepherd's "Curse of the Starving Class", a Showtime Classics film.) Mr. Hellerman produced and received an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award in 2003 for the Showtime movie "Bang, Bang, You're Dead", a topical dramatic film, based upon the stage play of the same name, that addresses the difficult issues of violence and bullying in America's high schools (Directed by Guy Ferland, and starring Tom Cavanaugh and Ben Foster.) Most recently, his creative and line producing efforts have included "Lies & Alibis" for Summit Entertainment (starring an ensemble cast including Steve Coogan, Rebecca Romijn, James Brolin, James Marsden, John Leguizamo and Sam Elliott), Black Snake Moan for Paramount Vantage (Directed by Craig Brewer, and Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci), "Powder Blue" (produced by and starring Forest Whitaker and also starring Jessica Biel, Ray Liotta and Patrick Swayze) and "Amexica", a topical narrative short-subject which is being produced in partnership with The Project to End Human Trafficking.
