Her father died when she was six years old. After completing school with a secondary school leaving certificate, she completed training as a hotel manager. In 1981 she married the entrepreneur Werner Herrmann, whereupon she took the stage name Eva Herman. In 1983 she began training as a journalist at Bayerischer Rundfunk, which she completed in 1986. At the same time, Herman also completed training as a television announcer at the same station from 1983 to 1988. Herman took over her first broadcasts during her training. From 1983 to 1990 she moderated the programs "Radiokantine", "Hitkiste", "Morning Program", "ARD-Nachtprogramm" and "Rushhour" for the radio station Bayern3. At the same time, Herman moderated the first news programs on Bavarian television during this period. She was also seen in entertainment shows such as "BR weg" and "Der Heiß Draht". In 1988 Herman moved to NDR in Hamburg, where she moderated the radio program "NDR2 am Vormittag", "Plattenkiste" and "Traumhaft". There she also joined NDR television in 1989 as a spokeswoman for the "Tagesschau". She also moderated regional news programs such as "Reports from the Day". From 1990, Herman hosted the monthly entertainment show "Schlagerparade der Volksmusik". In 1993, 1995 and 1997 she also led the ARD coverage of the International Radio Exhibition under the title "Die Erste im Erste". In 1993 Herman became the presenter of the evening program "Das!" from 1994 to 1995 she moderated the ARD program "Chorgala". From 1995 to 1998 she was also seen as the presenter of the annual "Stars" program on ARD. From 1995 to 1997 Herman led the reporting on Kieler Woche. In 1996/97 she moderated the ARD gala "A Heart for Children". Together with Bettina Tietjen, Herman has hosted their own talk show "Herman & Tietjen" since May 1997, which is broadcast monthly on N3. In July 2003, German television audiences voted Herman the most popular news presenter in Germany in a representative survey conducted by "TV Today" magazine. In 2001 she published her first novel "Dann kamst du", which was made into a film by Susanne Hake in 2003. Her second novel "But Love Isn't It" was published in 2002. Herman's non-fiction book "On the Happiness of Breastfeeding - Physical Closeness and Tenderness between Mother and Child" followed in 2003. According to a representative survey of the German population, Herman took second place among the best German news presenters in autumn 2004. In 2005 her non-fiction book "My child sleeps through the night - the natural way to peaceful nights for young and old" was published. In the run-up to the publication of her book "The Eva Principle" (September 2006) and the controversial discussions about modern emancipation that it caused, Eva Herman announced that she would stop moderating the "Tagesschau" from the end of August 2006 after 17 years. In her private life, Eva Herman's second marriage was to the journalist Horst-Wolfgang Bremke and her third marriage was to the producer Tom Ockers. Their son was born from her marriage to Ockers in 1997. She has been married to the hotelier Michael Bischoff for the fourth time since December 2005.
