Born in Thame, Oxfordshire, where her paternal family have lived for over 600 years, going back to their time at the Plantagenet and Tudor Courts. Recently described in The Sunday Times (June 2017) as "Weirdly Sexy and Urbane", Cate has worked extensively in Theatre as well as Film and Television. She did her early training under Isobel Van Beers (Oxford). After attending GSA, one of her first leading roles was as Avonia Bunn in the BBC adaptation of "Trelawney of the Wells" a part that Dame Maggie Smith, also a former student of Isobel Van Beers, had played at The National Theatre in London. For two consecutive years she presented the IVCA Awards at The British Film Institute.
