For more than 50 years Fredriksson was one of Sweden's best known actors, known for his flawless diction and mastery of spiritual delivery of characters in French comedies, but also in more serious works by Ibsen and Sudermann. Originally a student of law at Uppsala University, he turned to acting at the age of 29 and became a member of the cast at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, for which he was also managing director 1888-1898 and again in 1904-1907. However, he only performed in one single film; at the ripe age of 86 he made his movie debut in "Mästerkatten i stövlar" (1918). The year before that he had retired from the stage. He published his memoirs, "Teaterminnen", in 1918.
