Robert L. Freedman is a writer-producer for television and film, perhaps best known for the Emmy-winning miniseries "Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows," and "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella." For his work in musical theatre, Robert L. Freedman and his collaborator, composer Steven Lutvak, won the 2006 Fred Ebb Award for songwriting, and the 2006 Edward Kleban Award for lyric writing. One of their musicals, "Campaign of the Century," won the 2006 California Musical Theatre Award from the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild. Their musical "Kind Hearts and Coronets," based on the film, was presented in a three-week workshop at the 2006 Sundance Institute Theatre Lab. Born and raised in Southern California, Robert L. Freedman has a B.A. in Theatre from UCLA and an MFA in Dramatic Writing and Musical Theatre from NYU. He has taught screenwriting and playwriting at NYU and USC. He is married to actress Jean Kauffman, and they are the proud parents of Max Freedman, who attends Northwestern University.
