Marcus Freeman is an actor, writer, director and founder of PopiMarx Productions. He started acting at the age of eight. As a latched key kid, he was a part of the after school program at MacGregor Elementary School in Houston, Texas. He signed up for Drama, thinking it was ceramics and fell in love with it. But it wasn't until college after being cast in his professor's play, Sisterly Love that he truly pursued it. Marcus started out in many local productions, community and regional theatres such as The Ensemble Theatre. Marcus also worked as an assistant teacher for The Ensemble's summer program for kids from 1999 to 2000 as well as a Stage Manager for Express Children's Theatre. He also staged managed for plays such as "Love and Fire" and "No Soldier Left Behind." Marcus honed his skills and finally got an agent, Pastorini-Bosby where he expanded his craft into commercials such as Mike Calvert Toyota, Captain D's, Gillman Honda, and films such as The MC Hammer Story, Deceitful Storm, American Nightmare, Thug Life, and King of the World. His acting coach/mentor, Charnele Brown who portrayed Kimberly Reese on the sitcom, A Different World encouraged him to write, though Marcus wanted to stick with acting he gave it a shot. He began using his life as well as acting experiences and putting them on paper then after many attempts in 2011 Marcus completed his first short screen play, Sneakin and the stage play My Daughter My Child. Other works include short screen plays Mate Builders, Trump, and At the Right Time. One act plays Four Men and a Letter, The Lottery and A Day at the Office. He then utilized his talents for church ministries and after school programs writing such works as Ruthie and the Angel, A Rose out of Concrete, Communication, The Empty Egg and Empowerment. In 2010, Marcus created his own production company, PopiMarx Productions, a creative arts company which focuses on Acting, Photography, Writing, Directing and Producing. In 2012, Marcus decided to get back into acting appearing in the inspirational stage play, Love and Fire and in 2015, Worn out Soles. In 2013, Marcus directed and produced a short film he wrote called The Prank which premiered August 28, 2015 to rave reviews. In March 2016, Marcus directed a short film parody called America's Least Wanted: Side Pieces based on toniwo's book, The Side Piece Handbook. In June 2016, Marcus directed and performed in a stage play he wrote called, The Robinsons. In 2018 Marcus wrote, directed, and produced two short films, The Agency and Random Fate. In 2019 he plans to produce another stage play called, The Robinsons: Keep on Movin and the feature film version of The Prank.
