Nara Garber is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker who divides her time between writing, directing, shooting and editing, often wearing many hats on the same project. In 1998 she co-founded Topiary Productions - a boutique film and video production company at the vanguard of the "digital revolution," committed to strong storytelling and technical innovation in all genres. In 2007, Nara shifted her focus to non-fiction filmmaking, and her work as a freelance cinematographer and field producer has taken her from Native villages in Alaska to rural outposts in Ethiopia and military bases in Iraq. In 2011, Nara launched Lucky Penny Pictures, a solo enterprise with an emphasis on social issues documentaries. That year saw the premiere of Lucky Penny's first co-production, the feature documentary, "Flat Daddy" (co-directed with Betsy Nagler). Nara continues to direct and produce short-form documentaries for Carnegie Hall and is currently in post-production on her documentary about revitalization in a rust belt town, "Braddock Spring."
