As the Head of production and development for Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic(DLA/USH), Michela Giorelli was responsible for supervising all the original productions and international co-productions for the Latin American territory. During her 25-year career at Discovery Inc., Giorelli has been instrumental in the development and completion of more than 1000 productions made for the Latin American and US Hispanic markets. Many have been nominated for and received important industry accolades, including the Emmy award. Giorelli's work includes the development of productions such as Rescued: TheChilean Mine Story, Narcoarmas, Children at the Border, Drug Kingpin Hippos, The Jaque Operation, The Assasination of Jean Charles, and series such as Dual Survival Brazil, Naked and Afraid, City Eagles, Mexicanicos, Texas Trocas, the Latin American version of the highly rated lifestyle series Next Great Baker as well as Trata De Mujeres: De Tenancingo a New York" (Sex Trafficking: From Tenancingo To New York) which was awarded a US News and Documentary EMMY in the Outstanding Investigative Journalism in Spanish category by the National Academy of Television Arts &Sciences in 2014. Prior to her current position, Giorelli was executive producer for all original productions in DLA/USH's portfolio of networks. In this capacity she led the creation of local versions of acclaimed series such as Wife Swap and Rio Ink and specials including The Colosio Case, São Paulo Under Attack and Malvinas: The Story that Could have Been, among others. Born in Turin, Italy, Giorelli grew up in South America. She moved to the United States to pursue a career in communications at Emerson College in Boston, where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree. She received a master's degree in film and TV production from American University in Washington, D.C., and has worked on renowned films such as The Godfather III, Johnny Stecchino and Where Angels Fear to Tread.
