Richard is a highly experienced documentary film-maker, executive producer and channel controller with numerous awards to his name, from an Oscar (for Man on Wire) to an Emmy (for Maxwell) to BAFTAS, RTSs and Channel of the Year awards. He now oversees Plimsoll's documentary and specialist factual slate, where he has won a broad range of commissions including most recently When Big Things Go Wrong, for History Channel, Women of 9/11, with Robin Roberts for ABC News and Fela Kuti: Father of Afro-Beat for the BBC. He oversees Channel 4's latest history series Britain By Beach, a documentary series about the special relationship between UK premier Margaret Thatcher and US President Ronald Reagan, and a companion factual series to accompany the international hit drama series Peaky Blinders, all for the BBC. He has had a prestigious career in all forms of television, from scripted to unscripted. As Controller, BBC Four he created the international phenomenon known as Scandi-Noir, won Channel of the Year twice and oversaw enormous success with scripted hits like Taylor and Burton and Holy Flying Circus as well as unscripted success with British Masters and If Walls Could Talk. As Head of Independent Factual, and Head of Documentaries at the BBC he commissioned and oversaw some of the broadcaster's biggest and most enduring hits including The Choir, Tribe, Victorian Farm, Traffic Cops, The White Season, My Heart Belongs to Daddy and Beautiful Young Minds.
