Born December 25, 1909 in Vologda in a family of workers. As a schoolboy, he was fond of theater and cinema. Since 1926, he was a member of the Vologda literary group Struggle, he collaborated with the newspaper. An employee of the script department of the Leningrad film factory Sovkino since 1930, then moved to assistant director. In parallel, he studied at the director's department of the State Institute of Cinematography, graduated in 1932. He began working at the Leningrad newsreel studio. In August 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army, graduated from junior lieutenant courses. In December of the same year, he was commissioned due to illness. Being in the besieged Leningrad, from February 1942 he was involved in work with newsreels. After The Second World War, he remained at the Leningrad Documentary Film Studio, as a director working on films and releases of film periodicals. He died in 1968.
