Vladimir Levin is a Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, film producer. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In 1960 Levin graduated from the mechanical engineering department of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering. In 1968, he joined the directing department of VGIK (Boris Altshuler's educational film directing workshop). In 1970 he defended his diploma. He worked on film periodicals at the Tsentrnauchfilm studio, and as an engineer in the laboratory of film decoration technology at the Mosfilm film studio. Since 1986 Levin taught at VGIK. The plots of most of the director's films are in one way or another connected with a 'children's' theme. His first feature film Gde ty, Bagira? (1977) was filmed at the Odessa Film Studio in 1977. Subsequently, he worked for the Center for Documentary Filmmaking, where he made documentaries and popular science films.
