Alex was born in London in 1972. At the age of 4 his family moved to a farm in Northumberland. He lived there until the age of 16, before moving briefly to the Isle of Bute, in Scotland and then to Blockley in the Cotswolds. Alex attended The University of Glamorgan attaining a Bachelors degree in Theatre and Media Drama. Inspired by his father, actor Kenneth Gardnier, Alex perused a career in TV drama production starting out on such shows as BBC's 'Eastenders' and 'Casualty'. For almost 20 years he worked as a Runner, 3rd AD, 2nd AD, Location Manager and 1st AD across a large number of shows and genres. In 2007 he made is directing debut with the short film 'Ruby' a modern day retelling of little Red Riding Hood. In 2010 Alex directed his first broadcast TV with 'Hollyoaks' for Channel 4 going on to direct over 30 episodes. Since then he has directed on BBC 'Doctors', 'Dumping Ground' 'Moving On' '4 O'Clock Club' 'Coronation Street' and 'Casualty'. In 2017 and in 2020 episodes of Casualty that Alex directed were submitted as part of the shows nomination to BAFTA as 'Best Continuing Drama' with the 'Casualty' winning on both occasions. In 2020 Alex Produced and Directed 25 episodes of award winning 'The World According To Grandpa'. Alex has directed episodes of HBO's 'Theodosia' in 2021. Alex lives in Stockport with his wife, children a dog and a cat. Likes pizza and making stuff in his shed.
