Doreen Jones was a highly respected and prolific UK Casting Director, born May 1940. She entered the world of television in 1960 as secretary to Barry Ford at ATV, and was subsequently promoted to Booking Assistant in 1965. She left ATV in 1972 to become a Casting Director at Granada, where she took over as Head of Casting in 1978, later choosing to go freelance in 1987. During her time at Granada she cast the hugely successful 'Brideshead Revisited'. Her many other works include 'Wallander', the early 'Prime Suspect' series with Helen Mirren and 'Elizabeth I', for which she received an Emmy award in 2006. More recently she received C21Media's Drama Award for her casting of 'The Honourable Woman', Best Casting of a Drama Series in 2014. Doreen was a founding member of the Casting Director's Guild of Great Britain. Doreen Jones died on 19 February 2017, the same day as Maggie Lunn, another well respected UK Casting Director.
