A native of Perth, Australia, Helene Joy trained at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Her early career began on the stage where she performed various roles with the famous Sydney-based Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company. She went on to play such classic roles as Juliet,Ophelia,and a very young Lady Macbeth, with the Melbourne Theatre Company. She also appeared on television in the Australian series Man From Snowy River and Water Rats and many others, before moving to Toronto via Vancouver, B.C. to continue her career. Joy's most recent credits include the leading role in the award winning period drama for Canadian and British Television The Murdoch Mysteries (now in it's 11th season), for which she has received both Golden Nymph and multiple Canadian Screen Award nominations for Best Lead Actress in a drama. She also starred in the the award winning drama series Durham County (Season 1-3), for which she won a 2008 Gemini Award for Best Leading Actress. She was nominated for a Gemini yet again for this role in 2010 as well as for a Golden Nymph. In 2006, Joy earned Gemini nominations for her roles in the Shaftesbury Films productions of Under The Dragon's Tail: A Murdoch Mystery, and ReGenesis. In 2005, she won a Leo Award for Best Actress in the feature length film Desolation Sound. Joy's many credits also include a series lead role in An American In Canada; a recurring guest role on This Is Wonderland, and guest-starring roles on episodes of many other series..She has also lent her voice to numerous animation series for Canadian, British and Australian television including The Eggs, The Faireez, The Story of Og, Pearlie and The Detentionaires. She can occasionally be seen on stage with the Award winning Company Theatre of Toronto. She now spends her time between New York and Toronto.
