When as a teenage boy scout in 1948 on 'Bob a Job' week, I was given the job to prune some trees which backed against a timber boundary fence, with a gravel driveway on the other side, leading to a house behind the house 'Ilex' in Queensmere Road, SW19. Having finished pruning, the several trees A car stopped alongside in the driveway, and an American voice loudly exclaimed "You've pollard-ed those trees!". Later I asked at 'Ilex', who was that,- "Oh, that's Clay Keyes who lives in the house behind us". I was told. Now all those houses in Queensmere Road have long been replaced with a new estate. I was only in the scouts for about 2 years.
