Peter Miner grew up in and around show business. The son of television pioneer Worthington Miner and actress Frances Fuller, the father of former actor Peter Miner and actress Rachel Miner, as well as the cousin of television director Kirk Browning, he was a child actor who made his Broadway debut at age eight and was described by Joshua Logan as "the best child actor I ever saw". A graduate of Georgetown School of Foreign Service, he has a BS in Diplomatic and Consular Practice. Having been a director (The Brighter Day (1954), Guiding Light (1952)) and writer (an episode of Mama (1949), aka "I Remember Mama"), he took a career detour as an executive (Director of Daytime Programming at ABC-TV) before going back to directing, writing and producing. He produced Dark Shadows (1966) and Hey Cinderella! (1969), directed episodes of All My Children (1970), wrote a mystery-romance novel, "The Darkening Night" (under the pseudonym Jane Elliot). After a few years of freelancing, he took a long-term job directing the daytime television series, One Life to Live (1968) (1976-1996), picking up two Daytime Emmys and eight nominations in the process. He teaches "Directing the Actor" at Columbia University in the Graduate Film School and "On-Camera acting" at T. Schreiber Studios and Weist Baron school. He has directed a number of off-off Broadway productions and several short films.
