As a sworn cinefil and a person with an innate curiosity about human nature, Ilan is especially motivated to understand human emotions and to search for people's stories. Ilan's qualities lend themselves to his profession. Ilan Moskovitch was born in Akko in 1966, as a second son to Romanian immigrants that had experienced the hardships of World War II in Eastern Europe. His mother, Anna, worked as a nurse in a hospital and his father, Meir, had a kiosk in old Akko, which was located under the stairs of Bustan, the Arab cinema in Akko. This small balcony has had an incredible influence on his profession and his world view. As a curious and sensitive child, he started conversations with passerby near the cinema, including both teamsters who parked their wagons at the sidewalk across the street, blue collar workers in the area, and the scholars. "I loved watching people and chatting with them. For me, it was enough just to watch the people's faces, especially the adults. I liked to imagine them as little kids immediately; their actions, their parents and their living environment..." In 1988, he moved to the big city of Tel-Aviv and began to study cinema. In 1992, he graduated from the Video and Cinema Department of the Camera Obscura School of Art. In 1993, he served as a manager and production coordinator in several TV projects, where he worked alongside directors Ze'ev Revach, Dan Wolman, and others. In 1995, a meaningful turning point took place for Ilan when he randomly met the internationally known Israeli director Amos Gitai. Ilan served as his personal assistant in the movie Dvarim and from then on, a close friendship developed between them. They have worked together on 23 features thus far, 15 of which them are feature films, among them Yom Yom, Kadosh, Kippur, Eden, Kedma, Alila, The Promised Land, Free Zone, Disengagement,Carmel,Ana Arabia, and most recently "Rabin The Last Day" for which Moskovitch served as a casting director and artistic consultant . Four of the movies, Kadosh (1999), Kippur (2000), Kedma (2002), Free Zone (2005)were participants in the Cannes Film Festival official competition. Ilan won an honorable personal achievement when the actress Hanna Laszlo won the award for Best Actress at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival her role in Free Zone, a film for which he was the Casting Director. Also with Gitai, Ilan has produced several documentary films; among them are The Arena of Murder, Orange, Milim, Golan Diary, and a video installation entitled The Public Residence of The Fifties, which was shown at the Herzliya Museum and at the Ein Harod Museum of Art. In addition to his continued fruitful and fascinating work with Amos Gitai, in 1997, Ilan founded Cinemax, a production company, along with the director David Noy, with whom he has produced What Now?, Arlekino Behind The Masks and Peach. In 2001, he worked as a producer with David Gilboa for a number of commercials and image films; among their clients were Bank HaPoalim, The Ministry of Environmental Protection, SHL TeleMedicine, Ford Automobiles, UJA, and others.
