Dee Mosbacher, MD, PhD, is a psychiatrist, filmmaker, and social justice activist. As a public-sector psychiatrist, Dee has specialized in the treatment of patients with severe mental illness. She served as San Mateo County's Medical Director for Mental Health and Senior Psychiatrist at San Francisco's Progress Foundation. Mosbacher was also a board member of California Pacific Medical Center and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Motivated by gay-bashing at the 1992 Republican National Convention, she founded Woman Vision-a nonprofit aimed at promoting equal treatment of all people through the use of educational media. To date, Dee has directed or produced nine, multiple award-winning documentaries, including Academy Award-nominated Straight from the Heart. In 2014, Dee's life's work was acquired by the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College. Her films are part of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
