Philipp Müller-Dorn

Director | Actor | Writer
Date of birth : 06/28/1967
City of birth : Berlin, Germany

When young Philipp was growing up in Berlin, he informed his parents that he wanted to become an actor. Aware of the tough competition and possible disappointment that could face him in this career, his parents asked him to come up with a back up plan. After thinking it over, he enthusiastically announced that he wanted to be a movie director! Philipp came to New York in 1990. It was during his extensive training at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting that he realized his passion for directing. To get him on his way, he enrolled in the advanced filmmaking workshop at the New York Film Academy, where he discovered that his acting background gave him real empathy for character and performer alike. However, Philipp felt that to become a really good director, he had to be equally comfortable in all areas of production - technical and artistic. After devoting a part of his life to meticulous study and practice, he became a talented cinematographer in his own right, and has enjoyed a brief but distinguished career photographing several features. Consequently, he knows how to get the best from any Director of Photography. Since his move to New York, he has directed numerous shorts, and while this is his first feature as director, he has written three other feature-length screenplays ('Family Values and 'New York Generations' "The Supermarket" aka "Der Supermarkt"). His role as first time producer of this film gave him a solid understanding of scheduling and budgeting, where he discovered that bringing a film in on budget against all the odds is not the least of his talents.
