Betty Ouyang was born in New York City. After living in both Manhattan and Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn for a number of years, her family eventually settled in East Brunswick, New Jersey. While a student at Columbia University's Barnard College, Betty worked briefly as an on-air news correspondent for WKCR-FM radio, Columbia's radio station. As an undergrad, Betty felt a strong pull towards both journalism and acting. One of her first stage roles was 'Bananas' in John Guare's "The House of Blue Leaves", which was staged at the Alma Schapiro Theatre by Asian American Artists, a theatre group at Columbia University. Betty briefly interned with Christine Choy and Renee Tajima, two Oscar-nominated documentary filmmakers, who produced "Who Killed Vincent Chin?" about the Asian-American Civil Rights Movement. Upon graduation, Betty stayed in NYC, where she studied Meisner Technique with Barbara Marchant and Shakespeare with Robert Neff Williams. Some of Betty's most notable roles include 'Li Wei' in the Oscar-nominated and Sundance Winner "Frozen River" (starring Melissa Leo); 'Sun Lee' in the independent feature "Citizens United" (starring Ed Asner); and 'Carol' in the Manhattan-based cult-classic "Run For Cover in 3D" (starring Adam West and Ed Koch). Betty is also part of the Original Vocal Cast of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas", one of the top-grossing video games of all time. Betty most recently wrote, directed, produced and starred in two award-winning short-films. Her debut-film "Father's Day", which won the "Director's Choice Award 2018" at Roselle Park Film Festival, was picked up for global pay-tv distribution by Hewes Pictures. Betty's second film "Lala's Love Lessons" won a trophy for "Best Web/TV Short 2018" at Comedy World Network International Film Festival, and is being expanded into a half-hour comedy, featuring an original Italian Fashion Line.
