Frank Otto was born in Hamburg in 1957. After studying to become a restorer for paper and graphic arts at the Hamburg Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum of Industrial Art), he studied fine arts - with the main emphasis on painting - under Professor Duve at the Kunsthochschule Kiel (Kiel School of Art). As drummer and head of the bands "City Nord" and "Goya", he released several records, which also attracted international interest. In the year 1987 he founded Germany's first private youth radio, OK-Radio, in Hamburg. In addition he is co-founder of VIVA TV and HH-1, the first municipal television broadcasting station in Hamburg. His further involvements include, amongst others, the private radio stations Delta Radio, Kiss FM Berlin, Energy Sachsen and Oldie 95. In 1999 Frank Otto took over the stricken Hamburg daily newspaper, "Morgenpost". After four years the paper was back on its feet and he resold his shares. As artist, musician and media entrepreneur, Frank Otto helped several labels and musical projects to get off the ground. His largest and most innovative work to date is the multimedia project "Trip", which was first presented to the public in 2005. Here he is composer and writer - together with his friend and partner Bernt Köhler-Adams - and the painter who lends the magical charm to the "Artwork" film from the Trip cycle. Frank Otto is the trustee and founder of the non-profit-making organisation "Hamburg Leuchtfeuer", which supports hospices for the terminally ill within the framework of the "AIDS-Hilfe Hamburg". In the year 2005, together with Bernt Köhler-Adams, Frank Otto founded ferryhouse productions GmbH & Co. KG, in which all artistic activities are now brought together and marketed.
