Robert (Bob) MacFarland was born in Ireland. When he was 19 years old he won a weight lifting contest that gave him enough money to travel to the United States of America where he became a citizen. After many years working various jobs he became an Actor in the silent movies often playing the part of a lawman. When talking movies came to pass Bob found himself unable to continue these roles due to his strong Irish accent. Rather than leaving the movie industry all together he bought a ranch near Hollywood and it was used by the studios as the filming location for westerns. Eventually he sold the ranch and the location is today part of Paramount Studios. After leaving the movie industry Bob moved to Lewistown Montana and opened the Green Lantern Bar and Grill. He ran the business for many years until it caught fire one night and burned down. As Insurance was still a relatively new concept the business was not insured thus Bob lost this investment. Luckily careful planning and budgeting of the money he had earned in both the movie industry and the Bar/Grill allowed Bob to retire comfortably. Toward the end of his life Bob was able to buy a home (paying cash) for his daughter Lillian (MacFarland) Sullinger and her three children (Elsie, Robert, and Donna).
