Markus Machado

My name is Markus Machado. Born in 1966 in Uppsala, Sweden of a Portuguese, Italian, Indonesian Father (Augusto Jose Machado) and my beloved Swedish, Finnish Mother (Ingrid Nordén)- I am, or I should say, have been an art director and writer for nearly 28 years working in advertising. I worked at some of the most note worthy national as well as local advertising agencies and the pleasure of working with singularly some of the most creative minds in the advertising industry - Creative giants to be sure, they gave me a chance to work on accounts like Motel 6, Home Depot, Taco Bell and others, but without a doubt in past ten years starting my own agency was the most rewarding (and grueling) experience of my career and allowed me to flourish creatively in ways I could not have imagined. I've had for the first time the opportunity not just to write commercial television and video content, but direct well. This exercise re-opened a door for me. A desire to chase my true passion of creative expression in film and television. So with that I have begun writing short stories, and from those the beginning of teleplays - and while I muddle through, (not having had any formal training in scripting) I write notes for stories from the wild meanderings of my troubled mind; driven by a want to see less "soap operatic" dramas and sci-fi fantasies and more story driven episodics that cling to driving the moral under-current and adventure in film; and lean far less pyrotechnic SFX and gratuitous vulgarity and the profane. So tonight, I embark on a voyage to fulfill a childhood dream- NOT to just tell stories, or to be part of something that people recognize, because all creatives I know yearn for that. No, I aspire audaciously to a loftier purpose- to change the world... even just a little bit. Though not Aristotle, if I can in my own fashion weave stories that"...form of education that provides moral insight and fosters emotional growth." and thus provide as he suggested purification through pity and or fear- then maybe I will find some measure of satisfaction having done something to inspire others to good works and deeds.
