Known as Catherine Joell MacKinnon Catherine was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. She was raised in the Maritimes in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Catherine is an award winning Filmmaker and was ACTRA National Woman of the Year Award, 2016. Catherine got her early start as an actor, in community and professional theatre as a young teen in Nova Scotia, when she was featured in a short film, "Skip to the Beat" directed by Carol Millett. She moved to Toronto, Ontario, in 1996 and graduated from Ryerson University, BFA in Film Studies. Her senior thesis short film, "I'm Not From Hear", was nominated for Best Canadian Student Award at Montreal's World Film Festival,(2003) and won 5 International Film Festival Awards. Catherine was part of the National Film Board, NFB, Documentary Directing apprenticeship program in 2006. Selected Film/TV Credits: "Murdoch Mysteries" " Kenny Vs Spenny", "Silent Hill", ET AL. Selected Theatre credits: "Silence" at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, ON and Grand Theatre, London, ON. " ASLimprov", Deaf West Theatre "Voices of Chornobyl" Anteaus Theatre & Deaf West Theatre, in Los Angeles, CA. Catherine produced several films and a co-produced "The Hammer", (2010), which won several Audience Choice Awards, at the AFI Festival, Cleveland Film Festival, ET AL. Catherine also worked as ASL Dialect Coach for "The Hammer", (2010) TV mini-series, "Fargo" (2014 & 2017), & "The Silence" (2019) She used to live in North Hollywood, CA for five years. Catherine is a member of ACTRA Toronto Diversity Committee.
