Dave Martin appeared in only one film, Beefcake (1999) ,as himself, one of the 1950s physique photographers who were interviewed. He did however have other connections with film. He researched questions on film history for a radio quiz show in San Francisco, Minds Over Matter, on station KALW; and he interviewed screen personalities such as George O'Brien, Lyle Talbot, and Busby Berkeley. The Berkeley interview was expanded into a book, "The Genius Of Busby Berkeley," co-authored with Bob Pike, in 1973 by Creative Film Society. Martin was born in eastern Pennsylvania, attended Haverford High School, but moved in 1948 to San Francisco, where he ran his own photography studio from 1951 through 1974. His photography was profiled in the 1996 Janssen book,"American Photography Of The Male Nude," and given a special exhibit in 2006 at Stanford University's Cantor Arts Center. He was predeceased by a nephew, Tommy Sexton, a drummer with Scotti Brothers Records who performed with Leif Garrett.
