James BigBoy Medlin was born in Santa Anna, Texas and grew up in Odessa. He graduated from The University of Texas in 1968. Medlin served in the army and was wounded in Viet Nam June 7, 1969. James was a founding writer of The Austin Sun and The L.A. Weekly. He co-wrote Roadie, a film loosely based on a character from his column (Travis Redfish) with Michael Ventura. In 1987 Medlin became Head Writer at Movie Time, which became E! Entertainment Television two years later. Medlin was Editorial Director at E! until 2007. He continues to be a Consultant at the Network.
