Maurice Sakhnowsky was born Morotka Sakhnowsky in Kiev in 1894. In 1906, the young boy followed his parents to Switzerland where the family settled down. Maurice later became a tailor, which is exactly the role he played in his only film, The Last Chance (1945). The director, Leopold Lindtberg, had spotted him while he was acting in an amateur theater troop. In 1936, Lindtberg had already directed him in a play by Else Lasker-Schüler's play "Arthur Aronymus et ses enfants".
