Harish Saluja

Harish Saluja was born at Punjab, a state of India. Saluja's father was the professor of biology and his mother a classical singer and writer. He was influenced by films, especially the work of the filmmaker of Satyajit Ray. Saluja want to studying film but he graduated with a degree from IIT, Kharagpur and joined a mining company where he worked for 4 years. In 1971, he shifted to Pittsburgh, America because of the steel industry but he got a job in a publishing company. During his working days one of his colleague influenced by his art and knowledge of Indian music, she told him to spread Indian culture and art in Pittsburgh. That was the major turning point of his career. In 1995, he established new ray films. The first film that Harish Saluja wrote, directed and produced was The Journey (1997) under new ray films. His movie The Journey was premiered at the Seattle Film Festival in 1997 and was screened in over 20 festivals nationwide. Later it he produced Chasing Windmills. In 2005, Saluja created Silk Screen, an Asian arts and culture non-profit. He is a painter as well and famous for his abstract and miniature paintings. Living in Pittsburgh Harish Saluja co-hosted the weekly radio program Music From India every Sunday night on the NPR affiliate, WESA, 90.5 FM from 1972 to 2018. Recently Harish launched the Indigo Art Bags and incorporating his miniature paintings in handbags. With his brand and daily podcasts Saluja spreading Indian art and culture in Pittsburgh and America.
