Sara Swartz was born in Houston in 1906 but spent little time with her birth family, being placed in an orphanage at an early age. At age 8 she was playing stock theater in Denver where she was "discovered." Sara was the "Shirley Temple" of her day until she outgrew the image, then redefined her career as a "screamer." It is her scream at the death of Frankenstein in "The Bride of Frankenstein" and near the end of "Waterloo Bridge," (1931) dubbing her voice for Myra Clark. In 1917, eleven year old Sara is said to have rushed into a burning building, saving valuable film at Universal Studios and was promised to forever have a place in the movies. Though never under written contract, this verbal contract led to mostly uncredited parts in over 2000 films, Miss Sara Swartz often claimed in newspaper interviews. After more than 30 years in Hollywood, Sara Swartz died in 1949 and was buried at Hollywood Cemetery.
