K.L. Segal was born in Manhattan, New York. Her mother, Brenda Kennedy-Smith, is a former model and her father, Morton Segal, was a V.P. at MGM, participating in such films as The Sound of Music. Surrounded by the creative world of entertainment during her adolescent years, Ms. Segal studied music, dramatic arts, and wrote her first science fiction screenplay by the age of 14. A multi-instrumentalist, she was featured as a solo artist in school concerts. After her parents divorced, she focused her high school years on theatre and English. By 20, she was an aspiring actress/screenwriter, studying Film and Theater at UC Davis. During her academic tenure, Ms. Segal had her only child. As a young single parent, she garnered her first break, becoming on-air talent for a radio station while continuing her education in the dramatic arts. She soon moved on to major radio markets; 104.5 KFOG in San Francisco and 97.1 KLSX (The Howard Stern Station) in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, she continued writing, acted, voiced commercials, and became a syndicated writer for long-form radio shows. She was a San Francisco-based Director for a music TV program (MV8) and acted in commercials before landing small roles in The Naked 33 1/3 and My Fellow Americans. In Los Angeles, she trained as a Film Editor. Her first project was editing Lewis and Clark and George (Rose McGowen), working closely with (Director/Screenwriter) Rod McCall and (Lead Editor) Ed Marx. This was a spring-board into her career. She's become an astute storyteller who augments and creates film and television properties. From short to long-form narrative and all those that fall under the vast umbrella of non-scripted, she went on to work as an Executive Producer, Co-Executive Producer, Writer, Director, Multi-Cam Director, Green Screen Director, Supervising Editor, Finishing Editor, Editor, Sound Designer, and Composer. Yet, at the core of it all, she considers herself a screenwriter. Ms. Segal has contributed to works for such companies as Netflix, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Hulu, Sundance Channel, TBS, Nat Geo, CMT, Discovery, A&E, Youtube Red, Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers. Ms. Segal continues crafting a multitude of original projects in the genres of futuristic/science fiction, supernatural, comedy, dramatic, and biopic. She was the Producer/Director of one of scripts, ChasingBliss (2021), an off-beat comedy with actors such as Bob Clendenin (Quick Draw, Cougar Town, Longmire), Dave Sheriden (Scary Movie), and Trevor Lissauer (Sabrina The Teenage Witch & LA LA Land).
