A native of Savannah, Georgia, Huxsie Scott is regarded as one of the greatest jazz/blues artists ever to live and perform in the Savannah Coastal Area. Huxsie began her career as a jazz vocalist in 1973. During the next fourteen years she performed with many of the area's premiere jazz ensembles and symphony orchestras. Huxsie was a featured opener for such jazz greats as the late Lionel Hampton and McCoy Tyner. She was the original vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra and worked for a number of years as the featured vocalist for jazz great and Savannah resident, bassist Ben Tucker. In 1987 Huxsie came full circle and went back to her roots , singing Gospel and Inspirational music. She has recorded three full Gospel projects and is featured on several other recordings. She is a staff member in the music ministry of Overcoming By Faith Ministries in Savannah, Georgia. Currently, she is a featured performer in the Jukebox Journey musical that is in its second season at the historic Savannah Theatre. She has performed in many states and has also taken her gift of song to the beautiful Caribbean country of Barbados. Huxsie sang the title song for the 1996 Olympic Yachting event with composer, Jeffrey Reid. She was the bronze medalist for the 2004 American Traditions Competition in Savannah, Georgia. In 2004 Huxsie was inducted into the Savannah Tribune Gospel Hall Of Fame and was voted Best Female Contemporary Gospel Artist by the listeners of WSOK/Clear Channel Radio. On September 24, 2005, Huxsie Scott was inducted into the Coastal Jazz Association's Hall of Fame. Also in 2005, she began working at Oglethorpe Charter School.
