Born in Hungary, Laszlo Pal emigrated to the U.S.A in 1962 and graduated from the University of Southern California Cinema Department with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Cum Laude) and later earned an M.F.A. in Film Production at the University of British Columbia. His teaching career includes 2 years at U.B.C and 27 years at the University of Washington Extension Department. He shot and directed many television commercials, documentaries and won numerous international awards, including Emmy in 1993 for directing his feature film Journey to Spirit Island, aired on the Disney Channel. In 1997 he received another Emmy for directing a documentary film Sailing the World Alone, broadcast on P.B.S. His company Pal Productions, Inc., established in 1969, is well known for award-winning outdoor adventure specials, broadcasts on P.B.S, Discovery, National Geographic and other networks. He is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada (director), I.A.T.S.E. 600 (director of photography), and the National Television Academy.
