Damien Parer was a noted war cameraman during WWII. He filmed Australian soldiers in action in the Middle East and New Guinea, for the (then) Department of Information. He won an Academy Award for his coverage of the action on the Kokoda Trail. In 1943, he went to work for Paramount, covering US ground forces in action in the Pacific. He was killed by a burst of enemy machine gun fire while covering US Marines advancing on Peleliu.
