Drummer and singer Deborah Mary "Debbi" Peterson was born on August 22, 1961 in Northridge, Los Angeles, California and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Debbi established her first band while still in high school. In 1981, she co-founded the extremely popular and successful all-female rock group, The Bangles, along with Susanna Hoffs, her older sister Victoria Peterson and original bassist Annette Zilinskas. Debbi sings lead vocals on two songs by The Bangles: "Going Down to Liverpool" and "Be With You". Following the break-up of The Bangles in 1989, Peterson initially kept a low profile prior to joining the band "Smashbox" which, alas, only lasted a few months before falling apart in late 1991. In 1992, Debbi formed the acoustic duo "Kindred Spirit" with Siobhan Maher, who Peterson first met in an Indian restaurant in Los Angeles in 1989. The pair issued the four-track single "Here in My Eyes" in 1992 and performed as the opening act for Joan Armatrading. In June, 1995, Debbi and Maher released the full-length album "Kindred Spirit". Unfortunately, Maher and Peterson split up in 1997. In 1999, Debbi rejoined The Bangles. Debbi Peterson has been married to English sound engineer Steve Botting since 1989; the couple are the proud parents of son Brian and daughter Keira.
