Rossitsa Valkanova graduated in 1982 from the National Academy of Theatre and Film, Sofia as film director in a class led by H. Hristov, G. Dulgerov & M. Kiselov. Directed several shorts and documentaries before founding a production company, KLAS Film in 1995. Attended several film production courses in London and Berlin; worked as delegate, executive and associated producer in the production of numerous Bulgarian and foreign film productions. Member of national and international film selection comitees and juries, member of the European Film Academy. Among the titles produced by KLAS Film are "The Patience of the Stone", 1998, directed by K. Bonev, documentary, 6 national awards and 3 international, "Letter to America", 2001, directed by Iglika Triffonova, feature, in co-production with Holland and Hungary, ZDF/arte and supported by EURIMAGES; participated in more than 60 festivals and special screenings around the world; 9 national awards and 5 international awards, "Christmas Tree Upside Down, 2006, directed by Ivan Tcherkelov & Vasil Zhivkov, feature; in co-production with Germany; National Award of 2007 for Best director, the Special Prize of the Jury at the Karlovy Vary IFF 2006; selected for the EFA nominations for 2007; selected to more than 20 festivals among which Montreal, Pussan, Rotterdam. "Investigation", 2006, directed by Iglika Triffonova, feature; in co-production with Holland and Germany; 16 national awards, 4 international, among which Award for Best Feature film (Cottbus 2007). "Shelter", 2010, directed by Dragomir Sholev, script by Razvan Radulescu, Melissa de Raaf & Dragomir Sholev, WP at San Sebastian in Zabaltegi - New Directors; 85 festival selections as Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, Guadalahara, Sarajevo; awards include: Varna (Best debut and Best Cinematography) Bratislava (Best director award), Sofia IFF 2011 - Best Film in the international competition; Best Bulgarian Film; The Audience award; Los Angelis (Best Debut), Odessa (special mention), Bogotta (Silver Award), Prishtina (Best Director); 7 nominations and 4 wins (Best Film, Best Director, Best Editor, Best Art Designer) at the Bulgarian Film Academy Awards 2011.
