Denis Villeneuve

Director | Writer
Date of birth : 10/03/1967
City of birth : Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada

“I'm not someone that loves dialogue - I am someone that loves movement. Action, if it's well done, can be very poetic and meaningful.” Denis Villeneuve's filmmaking skills have been evident since his early days. His short film "REW-FFWD" (1994) won the Jury Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival, six years later he won the Genie Award for Best Director for the feature film "Maelström" and in 2008 he was awarded the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film for "Next Floor". Still in his native country, he directed "Polytechnique" (2009), a sordid but sharp portrait of the Montreal Polytechnic School Massacre, and only a year later he released "Incendies", a visceral and emotional drama that positioned him internationally thanks to an Oscar nomination in the Best International Film category. Since then, he jumped into Hollywood's big productions, committing to science fiction and directing "Arrival" (2016), the remake "Blade Runner 2049" (2017) and the adaptation of "Dune", divided into two parts (2021-2024).
