Reginald 'Reg' Watson AM was an Australian Television producer and screenwriter best known for creating Australian Soap dramas Neighbours (1985) and Prisoner (1979), The Young Doctors (1976) and Sons and Daughters (1982), all the shows Watson helped create and produce would be multi-award winning shows Watson grew up in Queensland on a farm, before roles as a radio actor and later an announcer. He moved to the UK in 1955 where he became Head Of Light Entertainment at ATV. After a successful time in the UK Watson would return to Australia and would become head of drama at Reg Grundy Productions creating other hit shows such as Starting Out, Waterloo Station, Possession, RIchmond Hill and many more. Watson who rarely gave interviews retired from public life in 1992 and would not produce or create anymore new shows. In 2010 Watson would be given a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to the media as a pioneer in the creation and production of serial television drama. Watson would pass away in 2019 aged 93 after a short illness.
