Georgi Alexandrov Stamatov is a Bulgarian actor and director. He was born on January 1, 1893 in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. He studied law at Sofia University. He has taken part in amateur performances as a student. In 1912, he joined the "Contemporary Theatre", leaded by M. Ikonomov. After successfully passed exam in 1914, he debuted in the role of Mr. Strange ("Sirena" by J. Shtolba) in the National Theatre in Sofia, where intermittent was an artist to 1964. He worked as director and chief manager in theaters in Ruse (1929-30), Plovdiv (1935-36), and Pazardzhik (1953-59). He was a Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Artists (1929-32). In 1944-45, he managed the activity of a combat theater. Along with M. Popova was the founder of the dramatic ensemble "Mayakovsky". He has led the theater at the Central Council of Trade Unions and a two-year Drama School theater. During the World War II he participated in the propaganda company of the Directorate for cultural activities among the troops. He managed three front-line theaters. He has taught at the State Theatre School. Stamatov is among the founders of the State Higher Theatre School in Sofia (now National Academy for Theatre and Film Art) in 1948. He was a Professor since 1948. He was a laureate of Dimitrov's Prize. He was a husband of the famous Bulgarian actress Petya Gerganova . He died on August 10, 1965 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
