Elliott Stein was mostly known for being a film critic and historian. He was a regular writer for the Village Voice and his articles on film have also been published in the New York Times, Rolling Stones, the London Financial Times, Film Comment, etc. After studying film at NYU, he spent more than ten years in Paris, an experience that shaped a film sensitivity and knowledge that was then original for an American writer and critic. Along with his few performances, he worked uncredited as co-scriptwriter on several films made in France and England.
