Mainly an opera singer (bass), Emile Stiebel was employed at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm from 1902 to 1941. His parts included Leporello in Mozart's "Don Giovanni", Bartolo in "The Marriage of Figaro", Ollendorf in "The Beggar Student" and the title role in Verdi's "Falstaff". Beside this Stiebel also had a career as a non-singing actor, and took part in some of the earliest narrative films made in Sweden. His voice is preserved on several recordings, some made as early as 1904.
