Ralph Strelow was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1963. He was a very young student at the School of Fine Arts, passionate about painting, but also for music and motorcycles, when a startling internship in the camera department of a commercial production company changed his life. The film set was the synthesis of everything he liked. He dug himself headlong into it. The time he spent in the camera department taught him how to shoot from the standpoint of technical execution, but at that point he knew that what really mattered was what most looked like painting, by becoming a Diretor of Photography. He started photographing in the '80's, at the same time that MTV was arriving in Brazil, stimulating the adoption of a more courageous and daring photographic language, with which he fully identified himself. It has been years shooting video clips, short filme, and countless commercials for big brands. In 2004 he shot the first feature film "redentor"of Claudio Torres, director and partner of Conspiração Filmes, with whom he had a great partnership. Ralph also made Claudio's second feature film "The Invisible Woman"and the light design of the show Universo Particular of the singer Marisa Monte, which Claudio Torres directed. The idea of the show was to create a cinematographic climate so we used cinema lighting equipment. The result was exciting. These projects were very different from each other, and were very important for his development as a cinematographer. With the arrival of digital technology, many things have changed, including limitless opportunities to handle exposure and final texture. He was the cinematographer of the feature film "Freedom Station" (2012) and "Jules and Dolores" (2016), both by Caito Ortiz, with whom he has been filming for more than ten years. In both projects, there was a desire for visual boldness, a strong language, and the digital tools were instrumental in reaching the end result. Also with Caito he worked on the award-winning Tv series "FDP" for HBO in 2012. His most recent finalized works are the Tv series "13 dias longe do Sol" by Luciano Moura, production of O2 Filmes and Tv Globo, about the collapse of a building, the stories of the survivors who buried, and the efforts of the rescuers trying to find them. In this project he photographed the part of the underground group, in a very dark environment. It was a wonderful challenge for him. He also shot the short "Stargoat", his first movie in science fiction, directed by Paulo Caruso, who like Ralph, is a fan of the genre.
