Jose Rolando Montalvan, Jr. was born on July 24, 1974 in San Francisco, California. J.R. Montalvan, Jr. attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco between 1996 and 1999. While attending the Academy of Art University, J.R. accepted the position of Camera Technician at Lee Utterbach, Inc. Motion Picture Camera Systems in San Francisco, California. It was there that J.R. began the journey into his career in Motion Picture. Upon completion of his initial training; it was achievement after achievement for this young Film Maker. With the guidance of his renowned Oscar Award Winning mentor and C.E.O. Mr. Dan Reed, J.R. was able to learn the technical aspect of film making at a furious pace. It was clear J.R. had a firm understanding of the technical expertise that would catapult him to the forefront of technical film making. In 2000 J.R. was certified in Burbank, CA as an ARRIFLEX Master Technician. Upon his return to Northern California he accepted a promotion to General Manager at LU, Inc. Responsibilities would be greater and additionally J.R. would be required to learn the Rental Coordinating Position which included the negotiation, contracting, and inventory of multi-million dollar camera systems to production companies from around the world. This brought J.R.'s education of the film industry to a whole. It was through those contacts and negotiations that eventually grew this young talented film maker into the young star he was ready to be. By far his highest technical achievement was the coordinating of the "Great Periscope Borescope Shootout". This was a co-production with Industrial Light and Magic that would put all seven of the worldwide available Periscope lenses side by side for comparison and review. The technical findings were published in numerous publications worldwide and J.R. Montalvan, Jr. was credited appropriately. With the lethal combination of technical and administrative skills under his belt, he was able to successfully fulfill his duties as the General Manager of LU, Inc. while continuing to provide award winning service. In 2000, J.R. founded Tremendous Films, Inc., an independent film production company. J.R was now the Executive Producer of Tremendous Films, Inc. who would go on to produce several award winning commercials and music videos. In 2002, J.R. teamed with Shot Films to produce the feature film, "Obstacles". "Obstacles" was distributed worldwide and even appeared on network television regularly. In 2004, J.R. Executive produced the 8 picture series S&SP and orchestrated the distribution deal that covered worldwide distribution. Since 2005, J.R. continues to offer his technical expertise worldwide and continues to produce numerous commercials and music videos which have included; Starbuck's Coffee, Aquafina, Matchmaker.com, eGreetings.com, Ming & FS vs. JROCK "Locus", Don Cisco featuring Kurupt & Roscoe "Oh Boy", DJ Hive "Ultrasonic Sound" from the Matrix Soundtrack, E-40 featuring the Mossie "Big Ballin with My Homies, Money B featuring Clee and Numskull "Putcha Thang on Me", Tra Di Di "Land of My Mothers", H Ryda featuring E-40 "Money Machine. In 2009, J.R. produced and directed his first international music video starring Sukshinder Shinda entitled "Balle". In 2012 he teamed with Shot Films again this time to produce the feature film, "What Are the Chances". "What Are the Chances" stars Brian Hooks, Mike Epps, Elise Neal, and Luenell. "What Are the Chances" is currently scheduled for a June 2015 release. Most recently in 2014, J.R. has agreed to terms with the real George Jung aka Boston George, who was the story center piece and non-fictional based character played by Johnny Depp in the 2001 film "Blow" to produce a reality-pilot and various other film projects. Currently in 2015, J.R. is Producing the feature length film 16 BARS The Movie. The sky is the limit for this talented filmmaker!
