Richard Henkels is an award-winning cameraman and director known for his striking visuals and contemporary, naturalistic style. Over his 20+ year career he has shot hundreds of world-class commercials for clients such as Twitter, Blue Cross, Serengeti, and Body Armor. He shot the highly acclaimed documentaries Author: JT Leroy Story, American Epic, and the Mel Brooks: American Masters special for PBS and Sundance; and photographed the narrative films Life Before Her Eyes with Uma Thurman, Mall starring Vincent D'Onofrio & Gina Gershon, and Condemned with Dylan Penn & Lydia Hurst. He directed MILFriend, an award winning comedy about crazy moms in gentrifying Venice beach and multiple episodes of State of Siege about the 2008 Mumbai Indian Terrorist attacks, both to be released in 2020. Influenced by his early work in skater punk videos on the streets of Philadelphia and his formal education in the highly-stylized world of Art Center College of Design, Henkels brings a unique blend of raw energy and precision styling to his relentless pursuit of storytelling.
