Born on 4-9-1911 in Wädenswil, Hedy Maria Wettstein was a Swiss performer whose long life and career allowed her to become the dean of Swiss actresses. First trained in rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, young Hedy turned to acting after joining Vienna's Max-Reinhart-Seminar. First confined to roles of young and innocent girls she later made her way to meatier roles in various companies and even cabarets (Mönchengladbach's Stadttheater, Bärentatze, etc.). In 1964, she put up her own company in Zurich, "Zimmertheater HMW", for which she played (most often alone on stage) pieces by Diggelmann, Muschg, Vogt, etc. Besides her numerous theatrical activities, she appeared in five movies and one TV movie. Hedy Maria died in Küsnacht, near Zurich, on 30-9-2006. She was 95.
