A veteran of fifteen years in professional theatre before he made his first film, William Winship has won numerous awards as a playwright and stage director on both sides of the Atlantic, staging plays in London, Edinburgh and Seattle. As a playwright, he received the prestigious Stanley Kramer Award for his first play, "The Ballplayer," and served artistic residencies in both the U.S. and the U.K. - serving twice as the Seattle Arts Commission's Artist-in-Residence and also as Director-in-Residence at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells, England. As a screenwriter and film director, Mr. Winship has garnered awards at two international film festivals, winning the Silver Award at the Victoria International Film Festival, and 2nd Place at the Northwest Film Festival for his first film, the 30-minute narrative drama, "Windows" - which later aired on PBS. Working as a documentary filmmaker, William Winship was honored with an EMMY nomination for writing, directing and editing the acclaimed PBS documentary "Pioneers In Aviation." Mr. Winship's recently published memoir, "The Canandaigua Letters" - which looks back half a century to the moment the author flunked out of college, was yanked from the sanctuary of a Midwestern liberal arts school, and drafted into the U.S. Army - has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
