He began as a member of a dance troupe in Vaudeville called "The 3 Bennett Brothers". It was during this time in the 1920's that he met and befriended William Claude Dukenfield (also known as W.C. Fields). He began working with the juggler turned comedian for 17 years. Prior to WWII, he moved to Hollywood, CA to pursue a career in movies and television. On December 8th, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
